Notes: Coniferous grove.

I have experienced mixed results with chemical tests. But this one is practically a bullseye for ferrugineus. Ammonia on cap surface produces dark green flash quickly blackening and becoming reddish-brown within one minute.

This one also has the tough/woody stipe base.

Coniferous habitat eliminates B. illudens and B. tenax. This then leaves X. subtomentosus and B. ferrugineus (aka X. spadiceus). Dropping ammonia on cap should easily separate the two.
