Observation 171453: Strobilomyces Berk.
When: 2014-07-16

Notes: This specimen was determined to be Strobilomyces floccopus based on the shaggy grey to black flesh, fruiting in the forest, flesh turned reddish when exposed to blackening over time, black spore print, globose spores, also ornamented. According to Mushroom Expert, Stobilomyces floccopus was the same thing as the earlier named Strobilomyces strobilaceus.

Did you actually visualize them through a scope? Were they warted or reticulate? The only reliable way to separate confusus from floccopus is through microscopy…
