Observation 171901: Piptoporus quercinus (Schrad.) P. Karst.

No herbarium specimen

Notes: Growing from a fallen oak . Several years downed. Growing from other half of chainsaw severed log that I found one on 2 weeks ago. Log was cut to clear trail. Find was near creek as have been all the ones I see in MD.

It reads like a fine wine evaluation. :) And good idea to taste this guy. I always forget to unless it’s a bolete.

Taste was slightly creamy/citrusy turning sour, with a horribly unpleasant acrid back/end note
