Observation 172171: Astraeus hygrometricus (Pers.) Morgan

When: 2014-07-30

Collection location: Larkspur, Colorado, USA [Click for map]

Who: Steve W (sewebb2000)

No specimen available

On the edge of a Ponderosa forest near Larkspur, CO, elevation 7300 feet.

Have never seen anything like it. Looks like a “mushroom-capped jellyfish.” I didn’t get an actual measurement, but believe it’s about 4" across, counting the “legs.”

Can anyone identify this?
