Observation 172555: Gymnopus dryophilus (Bull.) Murrill
When: 2014-06-16
(42.93° -85.63° )
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Found these upside down after a rainstorm in a grove of oak trees; I don’t know exactly what their substrate was. Thought these were golden trumpets (Xeromphalina kaufmanii) but the gills aren’t attatched. Spore print was white. Largest cap was maybe 3 cm wide.

Used references: I emailed Michael Kuo of Mushroomexpert.com and he suggested it could be Rhodocollybia maculata var. scorzonerea but said that microscopic analysis would be required before he could be very sure of anything.
