Observation 172560: Russula Pers.
When: 2014-06-19
(42.93° -85.63° )
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Large mushrooms 6 to 10 cm across, with a yellow spore print. Found in an oak grove in Mulick Park, Grand Rapids. The flesh was brittle and the layer of gills peeled away easily. The odor was strong and mushroomy but quickly become fishy and very unpleasant. They appeared after a few days of heavy rain, along with many russulas and some boletes. My best guess is some kind of russula.
