Well, that morchelloid Gomphidius…

is certainly weird (see last comment).

This (obs 172765) was collected in a predominantly hardwood area. So I doubt Gomphidius.

maybe something attacked by a virus and then eaten by a Hypomyces…

reminds of morchelloid Gomphidii like seen here http://mycoweb-sae.narod.ru/...

a fungus on a fungus on a fungus? Looks like some Syzygospora mycetophila that’s been colonized by a Hypomyces. In this case, there would be a specimen of G. dryophilus hiding underneath all this.
