Observation 173805: Leucopaxillus albissimus (Peck) Singer
When: 2014-08-09
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Pretty firm stem. Gills peeled off easily. Cap sometimes ruffled/scalloped looking at edges. Bright white. Very smooth cap. Decurrent gills. Smelled strange. Maybe chemical. Not mushroomy or funky or old socks or anything like that. Did the “throw at a hard object” test from David Aurora. Did not pass, but it didn’t break apart the way a russula would. Maybe it was just a little waterlogged. Our identifiers at the foray were pretty happy with the ID, although we noted it could just be in the group.

Distinct bad chemical-y odor. Can’t place it to anything specific.
