Notes: On ground in mixed woods including pine, balsam fir, oak, maple and birch. Cap 14 cm, red brown, sterile margin, yellow flesh. Yellow angular pores which blue when bruised, yellow tubes up to 2 cm which separate easily from the flesh. Flesh of cap, tubes and pores red where eaten by larvae. Yellow stem which is browner and netted at base, yellow flesh that blushes red when cut. Unpleasant odor.
