Notes: Air-dried and eventually finished in a dehydrator.

Possibly the same species as obs 174660 .

really interesting species, Rod (see links on previous comment). No, I have not ever seen anything like any of them.

Regarding the mushroom in this obs, the strongly umbonate cap is something I associate with sinicoflava.

The volva which is turning gray in what I take to be its upper part…

is suggestive of sinicoflava—a possible, tentative ID.

[Different subject] Take a look at sp-57 and sp-N50.

Looking that the DNA of sp-57 this morning led to realization that both are probably in sect. Amanita. Since something like this is showing up on MO from Tennessee and Florida, it would be very interesting to look at all the material.
