Unfortunatly this was well infested with larvae and rapidly deteriorated. Went to the same spot yesterday but nothing there. Better luck next time. If I can find more I’ll get in touch with else. Thanks again.

Hopefully I never run into a State Trooper…

while picking these. If I am asked what kind of mushroom I’m gathering, then the scientifically correct answer “I don’t know” may not go over very well.

I ran across a couple of these earlier today, just before getting ready for tonight’s meeting. During the show-and-tell I laid them out along with two Amanitas, a Lepidella and an Amidella, and said “let’s play three card monte, which one is edible?” A new member, a recent Polish immigrant, immediately knew the Parasols were edible. I informed him that he was no longer allowed to call it procera.

If it is undescribed, spore measurements won’t mean much. You could dry the collection and send it to Else Vellinga who may someday publish this. Or if still in good condition give the caps a quick fry in hot oil and butter. It is a favorite of mine even if it remains nameless!

While we were recording this a State trooper stoped to ask what we were doing. He lived about fifty feet from where we found this.

Would some spore measurements help define this? I still have it in my garage. Thanks. Phil

Nice find, Phil.

They look to be in prime condition.
