No herbarium specimen

Notes: Skin with two distinct layers. Surface smooth, pure white.

In the past, I IDed many examples of what I have called Bovista pila. Generally smaller and more globose than the puffball seen here. I think the unusual shape is due to the fruit body being strangled by a grass root.
