Observation 174866: Boletus smithii Thiers

No herbarium specimen

Notes: Large deep reddish pink(like rhubarb stalk) Bolete’s found under Doug fir, Yellow cedar, Mountain hemlock, and Spruce @5499ft elevation.

Stalk: swollen_similar to young king bolete without reticulation on upper portion of stalk.

Cap: Tan, buff, suede like, patches where damaged deep red in color. Cap stains deep indigo blue where handled on margin and pore surface underneath. Pore surface is initially light yellow in color like X. chrysenteron or X. zellerii without the cracks.
