uvidus var. acystidiosus is known only from Nova Scotia, Canada, and grows under conifers. Uvidus var. uvidus is reported as a widespread eastern NA species which grows in mixed woods. Although there are hemlock in the area of this obs, birch is the most prominent tree type. I had not made the necessary micro-analysis to completely eliminate var. acystidiosus from consideration. But this species seems like a long-shot.
