Recognized by sight: Purplish decurrent gills;pale violet smooth dry cap; cartiliginous almost ribbed stipe same color as cap with darker striations running the length of the stipe;
downy light violet mycelium at the base of the stalk. Found in mixed conifer forest ~2.5 miles east of Mendocino village. it is quite robust. Stipe is 2 cm thick in places.
