Diminishing concentration of KOH

As you probably know, KOH absorbs carbon dioxide from the air and a precipitate of potassium carbonate forms.

The hydroxide ions are diminished in the process, and the basic solution weakens.

I need to renew all my KOH bottles at this point. Especially the lower concentrations…they are becoming water.

Very best,

My KOH may be getting old…

but it produced very faint yellowish on the cap. I’ll save the specimen for you. For the record, the specimen was roughly 20cm tall, with cap 5-7cm at its widest part.

I would very much like to look at this collection if that is possible.

Do you have a strong basic solution like 5% (or a little greater) postassium hydroxide? Did you try a drop on the cap of this critter?

Very best,
