Notes: on trunk of Magnolia fraseri a few feet from ground

old open oak-maple forest on west-sloping side-ridge

continuous pale greenish crust, apothecia initially immersed but becoming essentially sessile, disk orange-brown plane to more often convex epruinose with nice matte-shiny lustre, rims strongly beaded and discontinuous but thick and well-developed, cortex K+y weak C- KC- UV- 350-375nm P-, epihymenium red-brown granular weakly POL+ not clearing or fading in K but P+ deep o/r needle-shaped crystals, hymenium clear ~60um, amphithecium weakly POL+ with huge rectangular crystals indistinct cortex not clearing in K, spores 8 per ascus hyaline ellipsoid smooth simple thin-walled ~13×7.5um
