Notes: on trunk of Acer rubrum ~1’ off ground

old open oak-maple forest on west-sloping side-ridge

thallus thin continuous pale gray-green with irregular coarse granular pustules which coalesce in the interior, K- C- KC- UV-350-375nm P+o strong (pannarin), apothecia few black superficial large and thick, disk plane smooth black with thin white pruina, rims thick smooth strongly inrolled and prominant at first but becoming thinner and even with disk at maturity, epihymenium dark brown, exciple dark brown outside to medium golden-brown inside of lax tangled hyphae, hymenium strongly inspersed ~120um deep hyaline to brownish near top, subhymenium or hypothecium hyaline and inspersed too, spores 1 per ascus hyaline ellipsoid 5-septate ~80×30um
