Russula variata Banning Russulaceae, Agaricales. (Сыроежка изменчивая розово-зелёная, Variable Russula).
Cap: 6-15cm, young rounded as a square head or cushion-shaped, expanding to convex or flat and slightly sunken in the centre when old; some sticky when wet, smooth becoming dry; dull grayish-pink or light pink and green up to irregular colored light pinkish-gray with some dull green and light greenish-gray places. Odor is pleasant. Flesh is brittle white up to dull yellowish-white and loose when dying.
Gills: attached and close, they look almost parallel and distant; moderately broad, color from white up to dull cream, yellowish-white when old.
Stalk: 4-7cm long, white up to dull yellowish-white; 1.5-3cm thick, often enlarging down, loose and partially hollow with edging.
Habitat: small group or single scattered in pine-tree forest with birches.
Edibility: good (several methods of cooking).
June – September.
