Observation 179986: Gastroboletus ruber (Zeller) Cázares & Trappe
When: 2014-09-20

Notes: Under conifers: spruce, hemlock, fir. Found two frbs together, the larger one about 7 cm.

Flesh white, stains blue quickly when cut, then settles at yellow. No particular odor.

Basidia 2-spored, ~20+4 x 11. Most spores 11-13 × 5.

Red–tipped pore tubes, staining consistent with Gastroboletus. Spore size looks Similar. Gastroboletus ruber should have spores 12.5 microns long or longer.

Great find, Sava! If comfirmed, extension of known range.
