Recognized by sight: dry brown cap up to 10 cm., small brown pores bruising black, dark brown stem with whiter base, white context bluing slightly above the tubes then reddening finally blackening, strong unpleasant odor, on ground under white pine, eastern larch and spruce, brown spore deposit
