Notes: Overgrowing on lichen on dead oak branch. Firm to the touch and fairly large surface area…about 12 inches long x 5 inches wide.

this one appears a little younger and kind of slick looking. The one meter by 20-30 centimeter one I just photo’d had a rougher appearance and is that a sort “umbo” around center of it?. Thanks for noticing

I’ll try to get some cut-open pics if I can find it at the park again

but when conditions are dry some slime molds can form a firm mass. It would help to cut it open.

pinonbistro, are slime molds slimy or spongy to the touch? Because this one was very firm and almost woody. I could have knocked on it with my knuckles.
