Cap: 8-18cm semi-spherical with vertical sides (square head), then convex, broadly convex up to almost flattened; white, yellowish-white, bruising yellow; smooth then slightly scaly or concentric scaly; young cap bottom is covered with white veil, later cap margin sometimes has hanging veil remnants; very old cap brownish-white and rarely with some reddish scales.
Gills: free, very close, narrow then moderately broad or broad when old; color from white or cream-white when covered with veil, then light pink, brownish-pink, purplish-brown up to purplish-black when old.
Veil: partial veil white leaving flaring up to pendant ring or a rim as a thin ring.
Stalk: 6-12cm long, white up to yellowish-white, bruising yellow; 1.5-3cm thick, slightly enlarging down, sometimes with indistinct basal bulb; sometimes hollow with edging. Partial veil leaves a ring at upper part of stalk.
Habitat: rare small groups scattered in pine-tree forest with some deciduous trees.
Season: July – September.
