On ground or submerged wood under pine, hemlock and maple. Cap 4 cm., yellow with orange fibers, darker over disc. Yellow gills turning orange. Stem color of gills with white base. Mild odor and bitter taste.

one can tell without a spore print color or other spore info.

Likely Gymnolipus… but I think that completely ruling out Tricholomopsis is premature. I find these two genera to be easily confused in the field.
