Observation 181540: Leccinum Gray

No herbarium specimen

Notes: Tannish cap surfaces becoming green tinged. Brown scabers.

Cut context slowly pinkish in spots. Context in stipes with gray stain. These traits favor holopus var. americanum.

Open area with intermittent wet spots, small gray birch, and very small native spruce.

KOH on cap surface orange, fading to reddish-purple, and ultimately to purplish-brown. Originally observed reaction much more apparent than what is seen in the photo taken the day after collection. Otherwise identical to obs 181539 . See notes for obs 181539 .

two days after this collection/obs. More of what appear to be the same Leccinum seen in obs 181744 and/or obs 181740 , which were observed after rainfall and sub-freezing temps.
