Observation 181969: Echinodontium tinctorium (Ellis & Everh.) Ellis & Everh.

No herbarium specimen

Notes: Found on the ground. Sporocarp has probably been there several years. Looked like a chunk of wood, but still with spines. Fresh flesh bright orange.


Most of the spines have already weathered away.
Top of fungus looks like blackened wood.
When broken apart (tough to break), exposed fresh flesh is orange.
