I just looked at the image of the patch of volval material on the lower stem.

The color is pretty much right. I agree that the bulb is not very distinct. Also the patches of volva are higher on the stem than I would expect. This is certainly not a common variant (in my experience). The most mutable character of crenulata for me has been cap color.

In short, I don’t have a good solid response to your question.

A. crenulata seems to fit in all respects except the bulb. Is that a variable feature?
