Amanita russuloides as shown at mushroomexpert.com appears to have a somewhat similar KOH reaction. http://www.mushroomexpert.com/amanita_russuloides.html

Here is an update observation from today (four days later) from the exact same spot. These were found about 50 feet away from some large eastern white pine and smaller oak trees in the middle of small fenced in area, with horses. http://mushroomobserver.org/182516?q=2GcJq

Report on KOH on crenulata.

I did go over to the school yard and collected crenulata under the usual three Norway Spruces.

I used pretty strong KOH (5-10% solution).

Nada, nothing, rien, zip.

Very best,

THanks for the input.

Right now, A. crenulata should be all over town. I will gather up a bunch and report the reaction with 5-10% KOH. That’s one way to get some information on that issue.

Very best,

I don’t think they are mixed, I applied KOH to those with and without a ring and to those with varying color differences and got the same reaction on the stipe and pileus. Is A. crenulata known to have pinkish tones? I don’t know the morphology of that species as well as I would like. I can find little info on the reaction of A. crenulata with KOH.

Thank you for your email.

I have been swamped with work and have reduced my time for mushroomobserver.

Thank you for the offer of this interesting collection. At this time of year, I would be expecting A. crenulata with some of the cap colors depicted in the image. Do you think the collection might be mixed?

I appreciate your offer of the collection. Thank you. I would like to have an opportunity to look at the material. I’m not sure how soon I can get to it.

Very best,

Paging Dr. Tulloss

What do you think of these, Rod? They were found in the same area as my previous Amanita “sp-N60” finds. Slight KOH reaction. No distinct taste or odor. I can send them if you like.
