This mushroom was found in the spring, but I suspect that it was from the previous autumn, as it was in a decomposing state and because that is when most Ganodermas fruit. At the time I had no idea what it was and didn’t check it out that much. It is possible however that this mushroom could have been growing on a piece of buried wood. it was not found in close proximity to any trees if my memory serves me right. Rather it was found in a grassy area with a fairly open canopy where it would receive lots of sun.
