Locations:
35°13’49.26"N, 85°57’47.14"W, el. 575 m. Dotson Point Trail.
35°13’21.51"N, 85°57’3.86"W, el. 572 m. Rutledge Point Trail.

Substrate: On the Dotson Point Trail, growing at the base of a tree on sandy soil over sandstone. On the Rutledge Point Trail, growing in a mosaic pattern with C. macilenta in a Cladonia patch 1 m across on mineral soil near the rim of shallow bank bordering a small stream.

Habitat: Oak-dominated eastern deciduous hardwood forest at the western edge of the Cumberland Plateau.

Note added on 04 Mar 2010: The Cladonia macilenta referred to here probably represent some of the natural variation found in this great patch of Cladonia didyma. See MO Observation #34510.
