They are overflashed – shadows are too harsh. If you are going to continue to flash the hell out of things, that is cool, but you should get a ring flash. The Phoenix Smartflash 46c works well, and is only about $80.

Don’t like ring flashes for mushrooms, the illumination is too even. Although, Alan and Caleb have some legendary shots with ring flashes.Tim, If you ever scrounge up some $$$, I’m really happy with vanguard’s alta pro tripod; the articulating center column is great and I don’t think there is a decent alternative for the price.
