I have found this type of Amanita before in this same area. I wasn’t actually mushroom hunting at the time. I thought it was a Coprinus or something I guess. Normally I dig up the base on Amanitas.

I didn’t keep a sample. I don’t have a microscope. I am not sure which species to keep and which to leave. But it seems like lately people keep wanting me to send them specimens. How do you decide which to save?

Do you dry your material sometimes for later study?

I am fairly confident that this amanita does not have a name. It would be an interesting collection to study.
