Growing with ponderosa pine. Forest is mixed woods, so white fir is never too far away.

Staining was instantaneous, and a red-wine color.

Odor of crushed base sweet.

The brown-capped bright-red stainers are fairly hard to come by away from the cypress zone of the immediate CA coast in my experience. If you can get a specimen dried, I’d love to look at it.
