Observation 18446: Tubaria (W.G. Sm.) Gillet

When: 2009-02-14

Collection location: Strouds Run State Park, Athens, Ohio, USA [Click for map]

Who: Dan Molter (shroomydan)

No specimen available

Finding these was a real surprise! They were growing from fallen sticks in a large patch about 400 feet square. There were probably fifty or sixty of them. Winter Laccaria?

According to mushroomexpert.com, Laccarias are mycorrhizal. These, however, are clearly saprobes.
