Observation 18462: Cortinarius (Pers.) Gray

Clearly associated with wood in at least one case; CAP 1-3" wide, rich dark reddish brown, scaly and very viscid; FLESH creamy, unchanging mostly except reddening a bit at base of stipe; GILLS creamy, notched; VEIL cortina clearly present; STIPE somewhat bulbous base, whitish with shaggy scales below cortina; SPORES rusty brown (visible on gill edge at 20x).
