Observation 185384: Hypomyces hyalinus (Schwein.) Tul. & C. Tul.

No herbarium specimen

Notes: Very early season fruiting of Amanita calyptroderma under Douglas-fir after around 1/2" – 1" of rain. Was warm out. Many fruit bodies were parasitized by a pinkish-white mold. No other large macrofungi around at this spot.

from the west coast. Of course, it may not be the ‘true’ H. hyalinus, so if any one sees specimens of this, please collect them!
It’s interesting to note that Darvin’s Amanita mold (identity uncertain) and other historical reports were on muscarioid taxa, while this is on A. calyptroderma.
