This was found in a narrow crack on a decaying stump. Tree species unknown. The woods here have mixed hardwoods and at least two species of pines.

Recognized by sight: Ganoderma curtisii if growing on hardwood, Ganoderma meredithiae if growing from pine. Slice it down the middle if you want to confirm, either species will have dark colored hard shiny bands of material running through the context. Very prominent in the stipe.

this one is a little aged, but if you find a younger one in a “No spray” zone, these make a nice tea in small amounts.

for the information. Will try to tuck that away the information in my brain if I ever see this type of mushroom again. I enjoyed finding it since I had not seen anything like this before – only in photos. Unfortunately I could not determine which kind of tree it was.
