To me, this guy is indistinguishable from Pisolithus I find around here (particularly the pine ones), I guess I would have assumed European specimens would usually differ more.

I’ve never seen one growing in grass, though!

Impossible to know.

This one was growing in a grass area in a farm that is sorrounded by many different species of trees, including oaks, olive trees and some others; Cistus are also present there.
