Observation 186953: Sarcodon scabrosus (Fr.) P. Karst.
When: 2014-10-25
No herbarium specimen

Notes: I came across maybe three of these while out hunting in my usual area. It appears as a purplish brown blob on the ground. Hardly noticeable among lots of other up and coming mushrooms of similar color. Underside spiky like a hedgehog. Pics show the detail of the fibrous looking, interesting stipe. Growing in what I call the “trick” zone, or where I find tricholomas.
