a widespread tropical genus

and therefore not unlikely to occur in Louisiana, Florida, and elsewhere along the Gulf Coast. observations like these make me wander over to airfare websites…

A member at Wild Mushrooms mentioned Phillipsia subpurpurea as being a similar Australian species. Online photos look similar to these.

I don’t see the genus Phillipsia listed in my NA Asco book. Seems like this may be a unique find.
