Observation 187208: Lycoperdon Pers.

When: 2014-11-04

Collection location: Japan [Click for map]

Who: shinto

No specimen available

Been watching this fungi for a week, from time it was small to the present photo where it has dried a bit and spread out. Always a smooth surface, same uniform color. Assuming I’ve got the right genus, noticed all the internet listings I could find showed un-smooth surfaces or color mottling. These things are all over the place here in the fall along with boletes.

Need to see the fungus sectioned from the top through the bottom to be certain. The stem-like structure is unusual for Lycopderdon, less so for Scleroderma.
