Observation 187253: Lactarius deliciosus group
When: 2014-11-03
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Because of our warmer weather this fall some of the colors on the fungi seem to be different, so just wanted to confirm that this is Russula crustosa.

I have no problem with ignorance and the search for knowledge. But I then find it pretty darned arrogant to think one can then create an “app” for the edification of others, when one doesn’t even have the most basic mushroom knowledge. A single photo, IDed by others, on a cellphone ap is NOT enough info to make good IDs. Why not become knowledgeable yourself, first, and then see if an ap is appropriate?

I help lots of folks who have questions or know very little. It was that “instant expert” attitude that I found a bit hard to swallow. Forget the ap. Leave that to folks who actually know the mushrooms, in all of their guises. The PNW is a great place to learn, but it takes years of study. Good luck in your pursuit of knowledge. You are not there yet, but certainly can be with hard work and effort.

I have been using Mushroom Observer for better classification, all of the other people here have been very helpful and kind. I am very sorry if I have taken up your time, but I believe this is the way people learn. By asking people that do know.

WTF?

This is not a Russula at all, but one of the species in the Lactarius delicious group, an OBVIOUS mushroom to anyone with any kind of real field experience. Please do not contribute to more bad info on the internet. Are you from the east coast, or what??!

Free is no bargain if that info is WRONG.

Perhaps another better suited project would be in order for ya?
