Observation 188795: Amanita polypyramis (Berk. & M.A. Curtis) Sacc.
When: 2014-11-07
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Very large Amanita growing under mature pines and Oaks
Looking straight down on it the large “button” was about 3.5 inches across. The stalk is about 1.75 inch across.

The top is covered by pyramid shaped bumps. You can see the remains of the universal veil at the bottom of the large one.

When I touched the surface of the small button, the top came off like Christmas tree flocking. I could see remnants of the universal veil around it.

Not collected, no spore print.
