I went back to this mushroom the next day…
At first all I could find was the stem (solid)… Then I noticed about 8 inches away, the cap had popped off… This mushroom was right next to a fallen tree, and the only way the cap could get to the other side of the tree, is for it to have popped off. (as opposed to rolling off or being knocked off. There were no apparent bites or teeth marks on it.
The inside of the cap looks bolete ish to me…
