Observation 190438: Amanita persicina (Dav. T. Jenkins) Tulloss & Geml

No herbarium specimen

Notes: Amanita, partially open. I did not collect spore because it is not mature. There are others, I may try again for a mature on in a few days.

Staining: I saw no staining due to cutting. Some browning due to insects.

Total length – 14 cm but still growing.

Cap – peachy-orange-yellow colors on top. Beige veil remains on top. Thick flesh. Orange from cap stains the flesh yellow, particularly near the top of the cap. Cap shape – see photo. Cap width 2.5-3.0 inches but not fully opened yet.

Gills – white, breadth=thick over most of the cap, narrowly adnate to free. see photo. Gills still covered by thin cob-web like Partial Veil. Gills crowded.

Stem – ~ 8.5 cm, widening toward base. Hard to decide where bulb starts. White, Covered by ridges of beige Partial Veil material.

Bulb, width – 4.5 cm, length ~ 4 cm. Non-staining. white flesh other than part invaded by insects. hard to decide where bulb starts.

I went back to check on these but all have been destroyed. Maybe I can collect a few this year for submittal to a fungarium.
