Smith had 4 species in that part of the key, Psathyrella longipes, P. fragilissima, P. elwhaensis & P. thomii. The differences are mostly bs and subtle, Smith used mostly spore shape and size, but Coprinopsis maracescibilis (=P. marcescibilis) has spores with variable shapes and sizes. P. fragilissima & P. elwhaensis have since been determined synonymous with C. marcescibilis and P. thomii has larger spores and may look something like obs 65825 & obs 97004. As far as I am aware, no one has done any work on P. longipes concerning this issue and Smith failed to include P. marcescibilis, I personally can’t find any concrete differences in the literature and even figuring out what Smith meant with the differences between P. longipes, P. fragilissima & P. elwhaensis seems like an exercise in futility…
