Observation 19100: Cortinarius effundens Moser, Horak & Singer
When: 2009-02-28
Herbarium specimen reported

Notes: Scattered in leaves, common; CAP 2-4", shiny-silky-striate, dry but with lots of dirt stuck to it indicating viscid at some point; VEIL pale cortina; STIPE bulbous and short, whitish-cottony texture; FLESH white, barely any bruising — just tiny region turning dark orange-brown at very base; SPORES rusty-brown; ODOR wonderful anise-like.

(number 0228.13, page 166)

(It is worth noting that while this set of specimens had short stipes, many others I saw had very long deeply-buried stipes, all with the distinctive anise odor.)
