Recognized by sight: convex orange brown cap with darker margin bruising green; crowded, spotted orange brown notched gills bruising green (paler edge?); partial veil leaving ring zone (ring fragments?);yellowish stem with enlarged base on dead hardwood (tanoak?)

Hi Richard, I have so much trouble distinguishing between these two genera sometimes. Is it the brownish gills and and duller brownish spore color here that says Pholiota?
