Observation 1930: Lactarius rufulus Peck
When: 2007-01-09
No herbarium specimen

Notes: Latex color & tongue tingle!
.
The latex starts out watery but then appears white! It looks like diluted or watered down milk, sort of a beige white. It’s also scanty and after 20 seconds seems to dry up. Crushing the cap produces a tan liquid with a whitish sheen. The taste is also confusing. It starts out mild but after about a minute (long time) the tongue starts to tingle. I had a tendency to call it slowly acrid, but it NEVER actually got hot. Call it mild with a strange tingle that feels like it is beginning to become acrid, but never makes it.
