Sounds like there are people that call Agaricus totally different mushrooms. Is there a way to tell what species these are? Or the genus is too large for this?

The L. stands for Carl Linnaeus. It is an abbreviation for the authors name for the genus Agaricus. Linnaeus was born in Sweden in 1707 and is the father of binomial nomenclature.

Is Agaricus L. a species? Or some general name for many related species? Thanks.
